Learner's license

The Traffic Branch of the Mauritius Police Force is responsible for the issue and control of Driving Licences in Mauritius and Rodrigues.

Before you can learn to drive a motorcar, motorcycle or autocyle you must apply for a provisional driving licence.

An applicant for a provisional driving licence can simply apply online through the Government Online Centre (GOC) at https://police.govmu.org. He or she will have to choose a convenient date and time to call at the Licensing Office, on line section to complete the processing of the application.

Application for driving licence shall be made in a Police Form (PF 31) and shall be accompanied by a Non- Refundable application fee of Rs 500.

• Go to https://govmu.org and on the top right hand side, click on digital government on the menu bar.
• Choose “eservices” from the dropdown menu and then click on apply for a learner’s license.
• You shall have the login page, sign in with your MAUPASS credentials and proceed with the application.

Note:

Application for Taxi: – Applicant shall be holder of a competent driving licence for Motor Cars. 

Application for Heavy Motor Vehicle (bus and lorry):- Applicant shall be holder of a competent driving licence for Motor Cars for a period of at least six months. 

Classification of Auto/Motorcycle

Type AM:- Autocycle

Type A1 :- 51 – 125cc

Type A2 :- 126-300 cc ( can apply if holder of type A1)

Type A :- > 300cc ( can apply if holder of type A1 and A2)

Minimum age requirement for Provisional Driving Licence:

  •   Autocycle – 15 yrs
  •   Motorcycle – 17 yrs
  •   Motorcar – 18 yrs

Applicant under the age of 18yrs should be accompanied by his responsible party with latter’s National Identity Card.

Applicant above 60yrs should produce a Medical certificate as to his fitness to drive.

If for one reason or another, applicant failed to turn up on the appointment date, his application is automatically cancelled. He has to re-apply after 48 hrs (Two days).

  • Click on access ‘my gov,’ sign in with your MAUPASS credentials on the Government Portal (http://govmu.org).
  • Click on ‘my workspace’ which is found in the dropdown menu under your username on the top right corner.
  • You shall have the details of the application for the learner’s license.
  • you will have to click on the edit button found under the ‘action’ tab, to proceed with the cancellation of the application.
  • Scroll Down and click Cancel.
  • After two days make a new application.
  • In case, the cancel button is not visible, contact online application centre on 2135744 or you may forward your request on licensing@govmu.org for further assistance.
  • Go to https://govmu.org and on the top right hand side, click on digital government on the menu bar.
  • Choose “eservices” from the dropdown menu and then click on payment for driving test.
  • You shall have the login page, sign in with your MAUPASS credentials to be able to effect the payment.

Note: Only holders of a valid provisional driving license for Auto/cycle, Motor/cycle, Private/car, Goods/vehicle, Bus and those who have already applied for a Taxi license can effect payment for that driving test.
Appointment date will be scheduled by the Traffic Branch, as per availability and applicants will be informed by e-mail within ten days of your application.

Fees:

  • Application for driving license    –  Rs 500
  • Driving Test Fee                           – Rs 500
  • International Driving permit        – Rs 800
  • Duplicate Driving License (lost/damaged) – Rs 500
  • Click on access ‘my gov’, sign in with your MAUPASS credentials on the Government Portal (http://govmu.org).
  • Click on ‘my workspace’ which is found in the dropdown menu under your username on the top right corner.
  • You shall have the details of the application for the learner’s license.
  • Cancel the previous application.
  •  Re-apply after 48 hours (Two days).
  • Birth Certificate.
  • National Identity Card or Student Pass as applicable.
  • Marriage Certificate as applicable.
  • Original work/residence permit and passport(for non-Mauritian Citizen).

Note: In cases where applicant is under 18 years, he/she should be accompanied by responsible party.

  • In case of system failure, electrical failure, public holiday, cyclonic conditions or any other calamities, you will have to re-apply.
